Advice from the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) regarding the Orara River quality.

Communities on the Orara River are advised to avoid contact with flood waters as authorities respond to a diesel spill associated with the Nana Glen derailment.

People are reminded not to swim or play in floodwaters because of the danger of contaminants. Swimming in flood water may cause illness, including ear infections, eye infections, fever and diarrhoea.

Residents and visitors are advised to avoid swimming in the ocean for at least 24hrs after the heavy rain has stopped and avoid swimming in rivers, creeks and lagoons for at least 3 days after rains
